Each chapter consists of a litany of definitions with a few black-and-white graphics added. At first I thought it was a serious book because it contains references. I realized later that the references are almost entirely citations of various dictionaries, including online-only dictionaries that I've never heard of, as well as citations of other textbooks and various non-peer-reviewed editorials in obscure journals. The chapters are very short and cursory. It is pretty much useless. Even the preface of the book makes clear that it is written for people with no background in science. What the book doesn't mention is that it's written in an incredibly lazy way. By far the worst textbook I've ever read. Do not waste your money on this piece of garbage.

I bought the kindle version of this book because the physical version was either $124 (no way am I paying that) or sold out. I needed this for class. Giving only 2 stars because I paid the same price for the kindle version as I would have for the physical version but all through the book figures and images are missing due to "copyright restrictions". I PAID FOR THE BOOK.TOTAL RIP OFF.Now I'm going to have to shell out ANOTHER $70 bucks so I can get the rest of the information.

Essentials of Environmental Health served as a good introductory book for learning the basics of environmental health in my university level Introduction to Environmental Health class. With topics including air pollution, water quality, pesticides, and the recent increased focus on occupational health, this book provided helpful definitions, diagrams, models, and theories on the wide array of topics included within. Although you will want to obtain books that focus more specifically on issues such as food safety or Zoonotic diseases, or even the most recent available research, I would not pass up this book for learning the basics and/or background of some of these topics.

So... I purchased this with the expectation that it would be the complete book. Imagine my surprise when several figures were "removed due to copyright restrictions". You CANNOT sell a book as a complete book when parts of it are taken out. Amazon should be ashamed.

I've used this for 2 classes, one undergrad and one grad. I like that I was able to use it for more than one class and the information is still relevant. The third edition is available now.

This edition did come very damaged, but for the price-it's expected.Overall, it does the job, so I'm pleased.
