About the Author

CHUCK GUNDERSON (Washington, Utah) was raised in San Diego, California, the site of the Beatles' eighth stop on the 1965 North American tour. He was too young to attend the show, but he fondly recalls his older siblings spinning the records of the Fab Four as he grew up, which perked a life-long love for the band. He has worked in the outdoor advertising industry most of his life, although his true passion is history. He holds two degrees in history-a BA from San Diego State University and an MA from the University of San Diego. Having published a few articles over the years, Chuck turned his sights to researching and writing this epic two-volume set on the history of the Beatles' North American tours of 1964 to 1966. Chuck is married to Christina, and they are the parents of four children, each a self-described Beatles fan.

I received the weighty two volume set today. The delivery woman commented on how heavy it was. The weight is due to the high quality art paper that was used. The pictures and memorabilia are exquisitely reproduced. These two hardcover volumes are each just over 300 pages and are stored in a matching heavy cardboard slip case. The author went all the way with the glorious quality of the materials and printing, as he did with the detailed content.I have read a few chapters and have learned things that surprised me. I started reading two chapters about Detroit, as that is where I saw The Beatles perform. The chapters can be read in any order, but are arranged in order by tour dates.The book is expensive, but the content and quality make it well worth the hefty price. The paperback is much cheaper, but will not have the quality or size of the pictures. This 12 pound book makes for quite an experience.

These volumes provide the definitive account of The Beatles' three seismic North American tours. The depth of research done for these books is comparable to the detail on display in the tomes of venerable Beatles' experts Mark Lewisohn, Bruce Spizer, and John C. Winn. Author Chuck Gunderson has provided Beatles' aficionados with a well written, lavishly illustrated chronology of these historic tours. The books trace The Fabs visits through each tour stop, detailing the concerts planning, and often including copies of the promoters' contracts with the band along with any other relevant information. The vast majority of the photos in these volumes have never been published which reflects the author's attention to detail.In a recent interview, Gunderson stated that he was waiting for years for someone to publish definitive books on The Beatles' North American tours, but when no one did, he decided to write them himself. It was worth the wait - superb and essential.

This is an absolutely stunning set of books ( 2 hardcover volumes in a slipcase ) analyzing the Beatles three North American tours. Mr. Gunderson devotes a chapter to each show,and through his extensive research and beautiful graphics, puts the reader right in the middle of it. The quality of the pictures and reproductions of documents,ads,ticket stubs etc. is just beautiful. This is easily one of the finest Beatles books ever published. Highly recommended!

Well, I turned 64 this year and my wish finally came true. Thank you, Mr Gunderson. Though after this, all other books will appear very weak. Mr. Gunderson sets the bar extremely high with these 2 Volumes. Time for another wish... The same treatment for the Rolling Stones 1st tour of the US. I can only hope, there's more to come. Thanks again for all your hard work! On my end, it was worth every penny.

An excellent book, could not believe the pioneering effort that had to be done on their first full tour of America. Their experiences and successes were eye-opening. Can't wait to obtain and read volume 2!
