I won't lie: I hated the New 52 Red Hood series. The douche-bag personality of Jason Todd, the surfer bro personality of Arsenal, and the ludicrous sexpot attitude of Starfire frankly ruined the three characters and tanked the series for me. Add to that an insane retconning of Jason's origins to suggest that the Joker had been behind all of his past misfortunes in order to force him to become a Robin (which steals Jason's own agency from moments like his iconic jacking of the Batmobile's wheels) and a waste of good villains like Helspont and Blackfire and you have a series I couldn't keep reading. Imagine my surprise when Scott Lobdell, the writer of that New 52 title, was once again handed the reigns to a Red Hood title during the new Rebirth era and for all the early reviews to come back positive. However, this is no joke. Lobdell has grown as a writer since that disastrous first volume of New 52 Red Hood and he now has a great grasp of the character. Aside from the great return to form for Wally West and Superman, this book may be the best pleasant surprise of the Rebirth era so far.The title sees Red Hood infiltrating the organization of Black Mask in order to dismantle the group from the inside. During his infiltration, he meets up with Amazonian warrior Artemis (more in line with her classic appearance from the 90's Wonder Woman books than with her appearance as a female Arrow in Young Justice) as well as a second failed clone of Superman: the new Bizarro. Black Mask hopes to make Bizarro his own personal weapon and turns to Red Hood to break the creature for him. I loved the references to Bizarro's first "appearance" during Forever Evil when he was a childlike clone in Lex Luthor's employ. This is a brand new clone but acting much in the same manner as that first one. Artemis has her own mission that brings her to Gotham, though much of her back story for now is a mystery and seems to be set for expansion in the second volume. The best aspect is certainly the characters with Red Hood and Artemis quickly developing a great, sarcastic rapport and with Red Hood playing Batman-like father figure to the confused Bizarro. The relationship between Jason and Batman is also wonderfully on display here and it is this book more than any other of Lobdell's previous books that won me over on the idea of Red Hood being a hero again instead of a villain like in his first appearances post-Infinite Crisis. A great read with beautiful art throughout. My only gripe was Black Mask's over-the-top gimp mask redesign, but by the book's end he is more in line with his classic appearance.

wow this was actually great, the artwork is amazing, Jason Todd is awesome as Red Hood i really loved the unique relationship he and Batman have. Also i really loved the back and forth between Red Hood and his allies Artemis and Bizarro. I can't wait to check out volume 2!

Wow.I absolutely loved this. I was a little on the fence about Rebirth and changing the roster of the Outlaws, but I have to say that I'm pleasantly and thoroughly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading the story.The artwork is fantastic, and the writing is great. The chemistry between the characters works really well. I cannot wait for volume two.

This is a great rebirth to the Red Hood and the Outlaws story line. I personally am preferring the original Red Hood and outlaws with Arsenal and Starfire. But this is series is seriously growing on me. Like ALOT!

A great way to kick off the series. It characterized each major player in a way that is not only enjoyable, but flawed.Jason is smart, funny, talented, and self conscious to the point of debilitation.Artemis is strong, fierce, beautiful, and arrogant to the point where she will let her inferiors beat her.And Bizarro. Probably the best character... not much else to say on him.

This has to be some of the best of Love' work!Any fan of any era of Jason Todd would love this!The story is pretty good.

I definitely recommend this to fans. It describes how Jason becomes red hood and has outstanding character development. It is beautifully drawn and I couldn't put my kindle down when reading. The humor is on point-- in fact, EVERYTHING about it is perfect. Defiantly worth it guys.
