Powlison has a unique ability to take the specifics of biblical truth and apply them to the deepest wounds of the human heart. Whether those wounds were caused by the evil of others or they are self inflicted, there is hope and healing in the cross! Buy this book! Give it to someone you know is struggling with sexual sin. Provide it for someone who needs the healing salve of God’s grace due to the abuse at the hands of others. There is practical wisdom in this book.

One of the best books I have read on this subject; I work with sex offenders who are also often victims of abuse and wanted to see if this was a book I could recommend. This book goes talks about so much more than the outward sexual sins one can easily identify and then it points one to the hope and mercy of God. This is the first book I have read by Powlinson, but will read more of his work.

This is a very good book.It is initially based on his lecture at a Desiring God conference in 2004 and greatly expanded.He has such a wise outlook and helping concern for individuals who struggle with these issues and those who care for them.Very timely book.I recommend this book very highly.

Unique book on fighting temptations. Will have to check out more of his writings. Each battle you win makes you stronger. Keep in mind what God says "I am with you." He is also for you not against you.

This book is a bit different than other Christian books that deal with the topics of sex, sexual sin, and sanctification. It doesn't give all the stats about pornography, it doesn't get into details about our over-sexualized culture, and it doesn't talk in depth about all the varieties of sexual sin. However, it is a helpful resource for those who have struggled with sexual sin or been victims of sexual sin. Whether male or female, young or old, sexual sin is a terrible burden to live with as is the shame that comes from being a victim of sexual sin. Powlison does a great job showing the reader the mercy of God towards his people who are struggling with sin or who are victims of such sin.There are two reasons I didn't give this book five stars. First, some of Powlison's wording/language was ambiguous. For example, he mentioned "unexpurgated righteousness" and "troika." He also used some phrases like saying how God will "remake your joy" and remake your "worry and irritability." I didn't always know what he meant by these words/phrases. Second, the book's contents blend a little; there are nine chapters, but they all sort of mingle with each other which hinders the overall outline of the book. But these two critiques aren't major; the book is very good and worth getting.I appreciated the way Powlison explained that sanctification is a gradual process. He did a great job giving detail on how the Christian doesn't just defeat sexual sin in a few weeks, and he helpfully mentioned how victims of sexual sin need to be patient with God's timeline of healing them. He also noted that sexual sin is bundled with other sins and heart issues, which I thought was spot-on.All in all, I really recommend this book for anyone dealing with sexual sin from any angle. I underlined and highlighted quite a few sections of this book, and have already read parts of it over. Even though the writing style isn't my favorite, the book is outstanding and I'll be handing it out to people in the future!

Powlison is clear and easy to understand on a hard topic, dealing with those who have suffered abuse at the hands of others and/or caused suffering or sin themselves. The two pronged approach is unique on this topic and he does a good job with it. Very helpful book.

Thoroughly addresses the topic in a Scriptural and loving way, hitting on a lot of common struggles faced by the individual. A very Gospel-centered approach and recommended for all who have struggled in this area or are looking to counsel those with such struggles.

Powlison does an outstanding job with a subject that affects all of us. He leads us on a journey of renewal, repentance, accountability and hope. Great for those who are struggling and those who care for them.
