Review

“Chandra Talpade Mohanty's illuminating analyses take up some of the most urgent questions facing a transnational feminist practice today. She provides resources for feminist engagements with difference, identity politics, the commodification of knowledge, and globalization and its effects. Shifts in the global political and economic landscape as well as Mohanty's own shifting location enable her to identify exhilarating new directions for feminist theory and practice.”—Sandra Harding, coeditor of Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society“Over the last two decades, Chandra Talpade Mohanty has produced an extraordinary body of writings on transnational feminism, radically changing the way we think about such categories as ‘third world women,’ ‘women of color’ and ‘globalization.’ This volume combines her now classic essays with new writings that accentuate the centrality of anticapitalist feminist theories and practices to the most expansive and forward-looking version of women's studies today.”—Angela Y. Davis"Chandra Talpade Mohanty is unequivocally one of the most important feminist theorists and scholars writing and publishing today. In this collection, her essays take on new meaning to play important parts in what is both a dynamic full-scale analysis of the complex histories of the exploitation of women within neocolonial capitalism and an elaboration of antiracist pedagogies and anticapitalist solidarity practices."—Lisa Lowe, author of Immigrant Acts: On Asian American Cultural Politics”The juxtaposition of these essays brings into sharp focus the theoretical framework Chandra Talpade Mohanty has developed and makes visible the enormity, the force, and the uniqueness of her contribution.”—Ruth Frankenberg, editor of Displacing Whiteness: Essays in Social and Cultural Criticism

I've been reading various texts on gender, feminism, and similar topics in college classes for the last couple of years, ranging from 19th and 20th C European and American feminist schools of thought, early and mid-20th C Egyptian feminism, to existential feminism. This book, feminism without borders, is the single best approach to feminist theory that I've ever read. The idea that there does not have to be a single, homogenous definition of what a feminist is, which is a central tenant of this book, is brilliant. The author starts here and beautifully explores this and related ideas. This book should be required reading for all students of gender studies, history, any aspect of literary studies or the arts. This book could alternatively be titled feminism without racism, feminism without classism, or feminism without religious discrimination.

I like the idea of giving up colonization. Capitalism has had its day in consuming the products of the earth and plundering its populations. Now it is time to improve the quality of life for the masses. The 1% has quite enough.

it is a bit complicated to read (as are most post-colonial theorists) but she really makes a good case to stop the hero/victim duality that perpetuates in the minds of many feminists and other activists (such as people that advocate for human rights, fair trade, etc)

Ordered Friday evening and had it for class by Monday!

I was very disappointed with this book because I was expecting a guideline on how we can come together as feminists rather than continuing this whole separation movement that we are currently in. However, this book was not about that at all, in my opinion. This book was extremely academic, which appeals to a very specific audience (college educated feminists, largely white feminists) and did not really offer a solution to how we can come together and create an inclusive social movement. For instance, while I can understand the academic terminology and language, I would not be able to share the information I learned from this book with my friends, family, partner, etc. because they would not be able to understand a single passage in this book. I was expecting inclusive language that would be easy for different folks to understand, and this book definitely was not that.

The product arrived on time and in mint condition. I purchased it for a class and it has been very useful. Chandra Mohanty is an essential writer to know when talking about feminist issues! This book is a keeper! Thank you!!

I forgot to add this to my book list and needed it last minute. This book came on time for my book review and I was very happy.

This book was required for a Women's Study class of mine. The idea and concept of the book was great; however, the writing is poor providing an awkward read. Far too many quotes from additional authors and then a small summary from the author. It could have been really good, I would NOT recommend this book.
